Too Many Primary Partitions

Today more and more Windows users choose MiniTool Partition Wizard as their private partition manager. While during the usage, they may encounter different kinds of error message given by Partition Wizard, says some operation cannot be carried out due to a specific reason. Today we are going to analyze a most common issue: MiniTool Partition Wizard reports too many primary partitions when trying to convert GPT disk to MBR disk.

How does this message occur?
Well, most Windows users know that on GPT disk, all partitions are marked as primary partitions and the largest partition number is 128. However, for a MBR disk, primary partitions should be limited into 4 at most, or 3 plus 1 extended partition. Thus, if a GPT disk is divided into more than 4 partitions (say 5,6,…), Partition Wizard cannot convert this GPT disk to MBR.

Thus, if there are too many partitions on the GPT disk, is it possible to convert the GPT disk to MBR disk with MiniTool Partition Wizard?

Convert GPT Disk to MBR Disk with Many Primary Partitions

The first thing we would like to clear is that there is still ways to convert a GPT disk to MBR with Partition Wizard. Since there are too many primary partitions, the first idea that come across is to backup and delete redundant partitions, then transfer data back after the conversion.

Step 1: Run MiniTool Partition Wizard Free and enter into the main interface. Click on one of the GPT partition (we recommend to choose a small one) to copy partition to another drive. Please repeat the copy until there are 4 partitions left.

Step 2: Delete the partitions you just copied.

Step 3: Click on the GPT disk and select “Convert GPT Disk to MBR Disk“. Then click “Apply” to finish the conversion.

Obviously there should be an easier way to do this, since backup and restore takes long time. Yes if you are a professional user, you can apply “Merge Partition” to combine some partitions until there are four partitions on the GPT disk, thus avoid preparing another drive for partition backup and the process of data restore.
