Why Merge Two partitions Windows 7

 
In the daily use of Windows 7, we find that a hard drive is always divided into two partitions. Most commonly situation is that one for Windows 7, and others for data storage. After years of usage, the computer hard drive may has been filled with various of data. In this case, the free space of each partition will become smaller and smaller. Merge partitions with Command Prompt in Windows 7

 
After running command prompt in Windows 7, we will find that this tool is not the terminator for this issue. In Windows 7, if we want to extend partitions, there must be an unallocated space right behind the partition you are going to extend. Otherwise, all are superfluous unless we delete the partition at the back, which is a risk of losing data if we don’t do any backup.

1. Run “diskpart.exe”, then press “Enter”.
2. Type “list volume” at the command prompt.
3. Type “select volume (number)” you want to free space.
4. Type “delete volume” to delete the selected volume.
5. Type “select volume (number)” to select the volume you want to extend. This volume should be in the front of the free space and they are adjacent.
6. Type “extend” to merge all of the free space.
Note: You should type these command without the quotes.
