After years of usage, the computer hard drive may has been filled with various of data. In this case, the free space of each partition will become smaller and smaller. Most important of all, you may disappointedly find that Windows 7 also runs slowly. How can you increase the system partition, or the data storage partition?
Before meeting the warning message “You are running on a very low disk space. Please free some disk space and try again”, Many of us may turn to Windows built-in command promt for help, in case of Windows system crash and data loss, which might be a painful experience. Since all partitions are nearly full, free unallocated space to increase another in meaningless. But combine partitions in Windows 7 might be helpful. How to solve such problem?

Merge partitions with Command Prompt in Windows 7

After running command prompt in Windows 7, we will find that this tool is not the terminator for this issue. In Windows 7, if we want to extend partitions, there must be an unallocated space right behind the partition you are going to extend. Otherwise, all are superfluous unless we delete the partition at the back, which is a risk of losing data if we don’t do any backup.
But if we have make up our mind to free a partition to extend the former one, what should we do by using command prompt? Here are the steps:
1. Run “diskpart.exe”, then press “Enter”.
2. Type “list volume” at the command prompt.
3. Type “select volume (number)” you want to free space.
4. Type “delete volume” to delete the selected volume.
5. Type “select volume (number)” to select the volume you want to extend. This volume should be in the front of the free space and they are adjacent.
6. Type “extend” to merge all of the free space.
Note: You should type these command without the quotes.
