While most users are accustomed to using basic disks, some users prefer to use dynamic disks so as to increase storage space freely or to enhance the data security. In the daily usage of dynamic hard drive, users may have various requirements, such as to create new dynamic volumes, to resize dynamic volumes, to format volume, to copy dynamic volume, and so on. In this post, I would like to introduce two ways to help format dynamic volume.
Usually, there are two ways to format dynamic disk, and they are: using local Disk Manager and using professional dynamic disk manager. Let’s talk in detail.
Way 1. Use Disk Management Utility
Disk Management utility is a built in Windows tool that can be used to do most basic management towards hard drives and partitions. Since it is totally free and can finish tasks without rebooting, many users prefer using it. When it comes to how to format dynamic volume, you just need to do the followings:
Step 1. Right click This PC and choose Manage – Storage – Disk Management. Then in the disk map select the dynamic volume that needs formatting and choose “Format” from the option menu.
Step 2. In the pop-up new window, set volume label, file system, allocation unit size, quick format, and compression first, then click “OK” to go on. Note you will receive a message saying “Formatting this volume will erase all data on it. Back up any data you want to keep before formatting. Do you want to continue?” Press “OK” to confirm dynamic drive formatting.
Way 2. Use Dynamic Partition Manager
You can also use a third-party partition manager to help format dynamic volume. Here MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional is recommended as it is an outstanding partition manager to deal with kinds of partition issues that can occur on both basic disks and dynamic disks. The reason I recommend this software is that it not only helps format dynamic volume, but also can create, resize, wipe, copy volumes. What’s more, it is able to convert dynamic disk to basic without data loss.
Note: This is a paid software and you need to purchase it from official website.
Step 1. Run this dynamic disk manager to its main interface. Then click on the volume you want to format and choose “Format Volume”.
Step 2. In the pop-up window, you can drop down each selection box to customize the volume during formatting. Then click “OK” to save you settings. You will be lead to the main interface of Partition Wizard, there you can click “Apply” to start formatting process.
In this post, I tell two ways to format dynamic volume – by using Disk Management and dynamic partition manager. You can choose either one to have a try. For more tips and tricks related to hard disk management, please visit: https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic.
