USB flash drives are a kind of storage devices that is often used in our daily life. However, such kind of drives are more frequently to encounter formatting or clean compared with local drives in computer. For example, after a long time of usage, sometimes USB drives don’t work well, which leads to wrong capacity showing or anything else. And, due to their portability, they are carried to a lot of places and is more likely to suffer from physical damage. Thus, we will have to pay for another one to replace the broken one. In such case, cleaning the USB drive is a possible solution.
Clean means to completely wipe the entire data stored in USB drives. And there are several ways to do so. The following part introduce 2 ways to clean a USB flash drive under Windows PC system.
Note: The cleaning process will erase all data on the drive, so please make a backup to the those important data in advance if there is.
Way 1: By Diskpart
Step 1: Connect the USB flash drive to PC.
Step 2: Run “Command Prompt” in the Start menu. Please select “Run as administrator”.
Step 3: Type “diskpart” and press Enter.
Step 4: Type “list disk” and press Enter. Then all disks will appear there.
Step 5: Type “select disk n” and press Enter. (n is the number of the USB flash drive.)
Step 6: Type “clean” and press Enter to perform.
When you see “Diskpart succeeded in cleaning the disk”, the clean operation is done. However, these processes are a little troublesome, and if the wrong disk is chosen, then it is too late to regret. So we recommend users to use free partition magic like MiniTool Partition Wizard to do this job.
Way 2: By using Free Partition Wizard
MiniTool Partition Wizard is a freeware designed for Windows Home Users to manage their disks and partitions in an easier way. Among its many features, “Wipe Disk” is able to clean the USB flash drive thoroughly.

Step 3: Right click that hard drive (by clicking the icon) and select “Wipe Disk” to wipe the USB drive.
