Change disk from MBR to GPT

About MBR and GPT Disk

MBR and GPT are two common partitioning formats of computer hard disk. A MBR (short for Master Boot Record) disk can support at most 4 primary partitions or 3 primary partitions and 1 extended partition. The size of single partition can amount to 2TB. GPT – GUID Partition Table, which is a new standard of disk partition table. It can support up to 128 partitions in Windows and the size of the largest partition is 18 EB. These are the main differences between MBR and GPT disk. And it is obvious that compared with MBR, GPT disk provides a more flexible partition principle.

Why Do Users Need to Change Disk from MBR to GPT

As discussed above, in terms of the number of partition and the maximum size of single partition, GPT disk gains an advantage over MBR disk. Of course, better features can be found in GPT. Therefore, a growing number of computer users intend to convert MBR to GPT.

How to Change Disk from MBR to GPT without Data Loss

Actually, with the help of the magic disk assistant – MiniTool Partition Wizard, users can convert MBR to GPT successfully and safely. All they need to do is follow the demonstration below.
Choose the MBR disk (Disk 3) which needs to be converted. Then, there are 3 ways to select “Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk” function.
1. Click it in the “Operation” list.
2. Right click Disk 3 and activate it from the pop-up list.
3. Click it from the drop-down list of “Disk” menu on the top.
Click “Apply” to apply the operations.
Click “Yes” in the pop-out interface to execute the pending changes.
1. Back up the data on the MBR disk before conversion.
2. MiniTool Partition Wizard can only help users convert the MBR disk which doesn’t contain system partition to GPT disk.
With the clear instruction and demonstration, we believe that users will have a clear understanding of MBR disk and GPT disk as well as how to change disk from MBR to GPT. In addition, MiniTool Partition Wizard also supports disk conversion from GPT to MBR as well as many other operations. Click here to know more about MiniTool Partition Wizard.
